DAILY DOGGIE - JAN 7, 2026 (by Carlene White)

Lucy the pig of days gone by.. In considering my finances I couldn't help but remember Lucy and how we got her.. I worked for the want advertiser magazine which involved handling an awful lot of cash and an awful lot of it was patties no pennies there we go.. And then it came time to figure out something for the children to do for the entire summer and I got the idea of having them put on a circus rather than put on a horse show and have one person with a blue ribbon be very happy and 19 other kids crying so we had the circus we got up at 7:00 in the morning for the flag raising ceremony in the front yard which involved probably 5 or 6 kids saluting the flag at 7:00 AM with me carrying the flag out of the house whatever we got it done and then they spent the day tried to put together this crazy circus. I suddenly got the idea that the pigs were and intelligent that maybe we should play with one of those and see what we could learn from it frankly. So I grabbed my local jug of pennies and gave it to Tommy who could probably be called a stable hand at that point and I I told him to go to the pig farm which was not too far away and find us a girl pig he never batted an eye took the jug of pennies and left and came back with a girl pig who was Lucy.  Lucy was with us for several years I think I seem to re of what I do without constant thought of the effects I remember her as an adult pig so we must have had our at least that amount of time and we certainly didn't eat her we gave her a proper funeral---  now for anybody to try and figure out who bought the pig who paid for the pig who should be able to deduct the cost of the pig or whatever all the funny things that the IRS demands you do that's just only one thing but it  Is typical. That circus raised $1000 for project hope the hospital ship I hate to think of what it cost me but I never bothered at that up where would I put the one gallon jug of petties for a pig the last two years at least. But it started me thinking of the convoluted finances of being a charity--- It wasn't until my association call the service dog project became a charity involving over I think it was a half $1,000,000.. That I would try and pay strict attention. However the way it works out in reality is that if something was needed  for the animals I would just buy it and we'd figure out the details later .   Whether you are dealing with people and finances it's a simple matter to say let's put it off for a month and try again later however when you've got a bunch of animals that need hey water food whatever twice a day that business of putting it off for a month just doesn't work and when somebody has to solve the problem someone does – or did .

Thinking back to that crazy circus. I remember an expense of three sheets of plywood no not plywood ===of galvanized metal which I made into a slide out of the hayloft into a pile of hay as part of our sideshow to the circus..  Another thing in that crazy circus was Wayne cashman's left escape ----------no I skate as in ice skate-- I think we've made most of our $1000 on the chances for his left skate which I had fixed to a lump of wood somehow. Made me wonder--- I still have contacts on occasion with Kathy Bailey who is in contact with most of the Bruins still...  And I'm sure most of the Bruins   from that era. are forgotten-- except maybe Bobby Orr.. If I could get Bobby orr's left skate to auction off in some silent auction I bet that one would make a buck..  And if he had escaped around I bet you he'd give it to us too— he's a nice guy.. Putting together a silent auction is I think beyond my capability-- but if the situation comes up I hope someone reminds me that we might have access to a piece of memorabilia from Bobby Orr.

There was one other piece I need to be reminded about so I'll tell you all just to be sure somebody remembers as part of the circus we had set up a seesaw which Janine at one end and a barrel of the other and Janine being very light got tossed high in the air when someone jumped off the barrel onto the seesaw the object was to have her land on a horse which you know she usually did. Having to accommodate a slippery clown outfit at the same time it was very amusing. But I saw someone get on a horse the other day in a very strange manner and I thought ohh I've got to remember that he puts some grain on the ground or a treat the horse puts his head down and the light child straddles the horse's neck so that when he picks his head up having finished the tree down the ground the kid slides back into riding position backwards mind you but riding position that could be very funny and I never thought about that before..

So there you have your assignments for the day I think I made 8:00
